A 61-year-old man appeared in West Seneca Town Court on Dec. 17 and pleaded not guilty to two DWI charges stemming from a two-car crash in which the driver of the other vehicle was killed. An investigation into the incident was ongoing at the time of the report, and additional charges may be forthcoming.
The event giving rise to the charges occurred on Nov. 27 on Indian Church Road in West Seneca when the defendant’s vehicle collided with another vehicle driven by a 33-year-old man who died in the crash. The man killed in the crash was a deputy sheriff who was active in local politics.
The suspected drunk driver’s attorney said that he planned to try the case on the two DWI charges, which were the only ones confronting his client. The defendant, who has long-term ties to the community, is free on his own recognizance, although the prosecution sought the imposition of a $5,000 bail. His next court appearance was scheduled for January.
