A 38-year-old man from Augusta was taken into police custody and charged with driving while intoxicated after he ran his car into a tree. According to the report, the accident occurred on Dec. 2 in the southbound lanes of North Road.
A witness allegedly heard the man hit the tree and called 911 when they found the man unconscious in his vehicle. The man was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries. In addition to being charged with driving while intoxicated, he was charged for failing to reduce speed when navigating a curve, failure to keep right and failure to submit to a breath test. His court date was not released in the report.
Those who are facing a DWI charge face severe consequences. In addition to a loss of driving privileges, they may also face extensive fines and court fees, a potential jail sentence and a criminal record. When facing a DWI charge, an experienced attorney may be able to help their client fully understand all of the legal options available in order to make the best case for their client.
In some cases, the attorney may find that the evidence stemming from an alleged drunk driving accident is inconsistent or does not match with the prosecution’s arguments. In these cases, the attorney may be able to challenge the charges. However, in some cases, the prosecution may have strong evidence and a conviction may be imminent. In these instances, the attorney may be able to negotiate a plea deal that would reduce both the severity of the charges and the consequences associated with those charges.
