New York man charged with DWI

A 42-year-old resident of New York was charged with driving while under the influence after he allegedly crashed his 2009 Honda Ridgeline truck into the passenger side of a 2008 Honda Pilot that a 48-year-old woman was driving.

According to the Howell Police Department, the woman had been slowing down due to the traffic on Route 9 near West Aldrich Road when the man crashed into her car’s passenger’s side. Witnesses to the accident stated that the man was driving on the shoulder of Route 9 before the accident occurred. After the accident, the man reportedly got out of his vehicle, locked it and fled the scene. He has been charged with driving while intoxicated.

Witnesses reportedly provided police officers with a description of the man, which they aired to police in the area. The man was found walking near New Friendship Road about an hour after the accident. According to him, he had dropped his cell phone and was trying to pick it up from the floor of his car when he crashed into the passenger side of the woman’s vehicle. He said that the reason he fled the scene was because he panicked.

In addition to the DWI charge, he was also charged with reckless driving, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash, failure to report a motor vehicle crash, passing on the shoulder and refusal to submit to a breath test. A DWI lawyer might be able to help the man get some of his charges dismissed since he did not submit to a breath test.
