A 21-year-old driver is facing misdemeanor DWI charges following an accident on July 4. According to New York State Police, the man and his 23-year-old female passenger both suffered injuries in the incident. The man was taken into police custody following the crash. Officials stated that additional charges are likely to be filed.
A single car was involved in the accident, which occurred at 5:14 p.m. The charged man was traveling on Route 29 when the Toyota sedan that he was operating left the roadway and collided with a concrete abutment. According to news sources, police determined that the driver had been drinking, and an investigation revealed a glass smoking pipe as well as an undisclosed amount of marijuana inside the vehicle.
The allegedly intoxicated man was transported to Glens Falls Hospital where he was treated for injuries suffered in connection with the crash. He has since been released pending prosecution. The woman was taken to Albany Medical Center with undisclosed injuries. State Police say that she is listed in stable condition.
The matter is scheduled to be heard in Greenwich Town Court. Under certain circumstances, however, some drunk driving cases may be satisfactorily resolved before they go to trial. Motorists who are facing DWI charges may find it beneficial to seek a case evaluation with a criminal defense attorney so that a strategy to combat the charges can be constructed. The attorney may be able to identify violations of police protocols or other deficiencies in the prosecution’s case that could ultimately lead to the charges being dropped.
