In New York, a man is facing 19 charges following an alleged drunk driving incident that began in Buffalo and ended in Kenmore on Sept. 29. According to reports, the man crashed his pickup truck into three homes on Kenmore Avenue during a police chase that started on Niagara Falls Boulevard. He was tased by police while attempting to flee the scene on foot following the final collision.
In addition to numerous traffic violations, the 22-year-old man has been charged with fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, assault, DWI and obstructing governmental administration. Following the incident, a 19-year-old female, who was a passenger in the truck, was transported to Erie County Medical Center where she received treatment for a leg injury. Prior to his arraignment, the man was also transported to the same facility for treatment. He was then held without bail at Erie County Holding Center pending a court date on Oct. 5.
The investigation was still in progress when the preliminary reports were filed. These reports indicate that the man allegedly “took off” when police attempted to stop the pickup for speeding. The driver subsequently lost control of the vehicle and crashed into two homes, causing significant damage to the front porch of one and the foundation of the other. The truck came to rest against the third home.
Because a drunk driving conviction in New York carries serious consequences, individuals who find themselves facing these charges may find it beneficial to seek immediate help from a criminal defense attorney. In some situations, the attorney may be able to successfully challenge portions of the prosecution’s evidence that could lead to the charges being dismissed.
