An actor who appears in the Showtime series “Shameless” is now facing a DUI charge, and fans who live in the state of New York may want to know more. The case, which is unfolding on the opposite side of the country, involves 18-year-old Ethan Cutkosky, who portrays the second-youngest Gallagher kid on the show. According to media sources, Cutkosky was driving an orange BMW when he was taken into custody following a traffic stop on Nov. 2.
The incident occurred in Los Angeles. The television star was reportedly pulled over at approximately 10:30 p.m. after spending the earlier part of the evening celebrating his girlfriend’s birthday. Sources say that the couple posted photos of the celebration to social media shortly before Cutkosky was detained.
Law enforcement officials say that Cutkosky was stopped because he was allegedly straddling lanes on the roadway. Reports indicate that the actor told officers he had been smoking marijuana earlier after officers observed the odor of the substance during their investigation. If he is convicted of DUI, Cutkosky could spend up to six months in jail. He also faces the possible loss of his license and a $1,000 fine upon conviction. In addition to the misdemeanor charge, the actor was charged with a number of unspecified traffic violations.
While a misdemeanor DUI charge such as the one reported in Cutkosky’s case is a serious matter in New York, subsequent charges could lead to a life-impacting felony criminal record. Individuals who find themselves facing a felony conviction in this state may wish to bring their cases to a criminal defense attorney for evaluation. In some situations, the attorney may be able to mitigate the potential consequences of a conviction or obtain a dismissal.
