The Hamptons are a popular playground for the wealthy of New York, and the coastal area allegedly proved intoxicating for one man of uncertain fortunes. The police in Sag Harbor stopped him for erratic driving. According to the police report, he would not allow a breath test to be administered.
Authorities took him into custody because he smelled strongly of alcohol and stumbled when he walked. He reportedly told officers that he resided in Elmhurst. The 33-year-old man attracted attention because of his odd last name that suggested he was a billionaire.
Although he lacked the credentials of a wealthy Wall Street investor or technology company founder, his resume included interesting occupations. In addition to being a laborer, he styled himself online as an author, investor and inspirational speaker. For those who wish to get married, he also claimed to be a spiritual minister who performed weddings.
When a person is arrested for drunk driving, the incident may not result in news headlines, but the consequences of a conviction could still be serious. A person in this situation has the right to seek legal representation. Consulting an attorney could inform a person about defense strategies. The person might also gain insights about how to enter a plea and answer other questions in court. To challenge the charges, an attorney could review the arrest report and look for procedural errors that might invalidate the charges. If that is not a viable course, then an attorney might negotiate with a prosecutor and strive to obtain a reduced charge and a lenient sentence. An attorney could also assist in the process of getting a driver’s license reinstated.
